Accountability Across Sectors: Government, Industry, and Youth in the Climate Crisis

One of the biggest threats we face is climate change. The annual Conference of the Parties (COP) aims to find integrated global solutions and mitigation strategies to combat this issue. However, what has become apparent from these meetings is that some nations are more willing than others to make changes. The USA and China are the top 2 leading nations in terms of CO2 emission, however at Cop 28 instead of making tangible goals they stated “they would set reduction targets for all greenhouse gas emissions”. As the leading carbon emitters and thus the most responsible for climate change, should they be held more accountable for the effects of climate change, and be forced to make more drastic cuts to their emissions?
