Dr. Elly Barnes

Dr Elly Barnes MBE is the CEO and Founder of Educate & Celebrate, a charity of experienced teachers who began transforming schools and organisations into LGBT+ friendly places in 2005. As a long serving teacher, Elly developed the PRIDE in Inclusion Award programme from her own experiences of finding the most effective strategies to educate teachers, students, parents and governors about gender identity and sexual orientation. Her approaches have been recognised by the Depertment for Education for the pilot anti-HBT project in 2016 and by Ofsted as best practice for taking a whole-school approach to tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying and ingrained attitudes in our schools describing it as ‘visionary and innovative’. Elly is a regular writer, speaker and campaigner for social justice in education.
