Jeremy Raguain
Jeremy currently works for the Seychelles Islands Foundation (SIF), which manages Seychelles’ UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Aldabra Atoll, and Vallée de Mai as the Communications and Outreach Coordinator.
I was previously a Project Officer with SIF and in the two and half years in that position I facilitated several projects, most notably co-leading the Aldabra Clean-Up Project. I studied Environmental Geographical Sciences and International Relations at the University of Cape Town and recently completed a six month fellowship in Environmental Management at the Technical University of Dresden through the Centre for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management.
My work and studies have shown me that experiences, good and bad, need to be shared for effective collective progress and that meaningful action is best achieved by being informed, collaborative and creative. I am a member of the Global Shapers Victoria Hub, was the Vice curator for 2019-2020 and currently serve as the East Africa Regional Environmental Lead for the sub-Saharan Africa Climate and Environment Steering committee, encouraging hubs in 16 African states to initiate and collaborate on Climate and Environment projects as well as exchange knowledge.
I am also a Sustainable Ocean Alliance Young Ocean Leader, being a member of the Alliance’s inaugural Youth Policy Advisory Council representing SIDS and having a leading role on the alliance’s deep seabed mining campaign (https://www.soalliance.org/soa-campaign-against-seabed-mining) and supporting the council’s formulation of a “global blue new deal” by assessing young people's priorities for a blue economy. For me island living entails being close and dependent on our ocean, for food, livelihood, health, recreation and so much more. I advocate for climate action and believe in fighting for a Blue Economy that is sustainable and equitable, having no extractive or fossil fuel industries included.
